Help with Digimon World for Original Playstation?

Question has many parts, warning. 1. Happiness and Dicipline, I fail hard at discipline and even doing everything the Digi wants, Happiness never rises above 50% so I'm just at a COMPLETE loss there, any advice would be much appreciated. 2. FOOD OMG!!! My Digimon is a fat ****. He's ALWAYS hungry, and it takes all of my daily rations to feed him once, and I can't find enough food elsewhere to keep his fat *** from starving, what to do? 3. Progression, this one's tricky. It takes time to gather food for my Digimon, who i've aptly named Fatshit, and it takes a lot of food and thus a lot of time. I can not train while gathering and when I'm training I'm not progressing and when I'm not training I must be gathering because Fatshit eats like a damned herd of cattle, not just one but all of them. So it seems as though I must choose between correctly raising my Digi or progressing in game. 4. How in God's name do I even raise the Discipline gauge? 5. I NEED A FISHING POLE, GATHERING WOULD BE SO MUCH EASIER. I know Mount trash but i dont know where...again any help would be greatly appreciated.
