How do I use a baby bouncer?

I have a 10 week old baby and we have a baby bouncer somebody gave us and I really don't get how it works...do I just put him in their and let his movements bounce him around or do I bounce it my self? I'm only not sure because everytime I put him in there he freezes and gives me this look like WTF IS THIS GET ME OUT!! thanks for the help :D
