What happens when you leave an ice bag on your face for too long?

my wisdom teeth have been killing me so i've been icing the crap out of the left side of my face. just yesterday these small bumps came started to show. when i run my fingers over them it feels like pins & needles. can nerve endings just come up & form these bumps from icing my face for too long? i had shingles once & its kinda the same sensation but doesn't look like it, so i've been using some st. johns wort oil to just help. its sometimes itchy & its really dry. im gonna go to the dr. in a few days for a check up but for now should i just not ice my face or put some cream on it? could it be shingles again? :(
