Do the real issues of the Presidency even matter anymore?

I hope that there are in this country sufficient numbers of the populace intelligent enough and protective of the Constitution and its prohibition against the establishment of a state religion to oppose the nomination, or if not that, then the election of Mike Huckabee! There are indeed more crucial issues facing the United States than the amending of the Constitution to prevent gay marriages or to allow prayer in the public schools! Look at the state of the country currently following seven years of the Presidency of a "Christian" Republican!
