I need to set up a satellite dish when touring with my caravan Advice please?

Will I have to have a tripod to hold the dish stable, It came with a suction pad but the only place to practicaly put it is on the car roof but that means keep putting it on and off and that is too much hle? Please do not say put it on the roof of the caravan thats too fiddly. I am finding it difficult to get the quality of the signal right!!
